Grandioso III

Grandioso III is a 16 hand 1999 bay stallion, imported from Spain in 2003. He is from the Adelante/Sevillano(Albero II) lines produced by the Yeguada Marin Garcia. He is baroque in type with modern movement-straight and forward, naturally uphill, with exceptional hind leg action.

As a young horse, GR showed successfully in the lower levels, and was the recipient of many Open High Point Awards, as well as the Champion of the Breed at Fiesta Florida 2006. In 2008 Grandioso's training was taken over by two-time World Cup competitor and Olympian Courtney King Dye. Together in 2009, they scored consistently in the high 60s and low 70s at the Small Tour in the international shows, with many ribbons and first places, including winning the Inter I Freestyle at the Wellington Classic CDI and both the PSG and Inter I at Lamplight CDI. Also in 2009, the pair qualified for the USET Festival of Champions in Gladstone at Intermediare I, where they finished 5th in the country. In early 2010, Grandioso was introduced to Intermediare II in Wellington with scores continuing above 68%. Courtney's tragic accident on a different horse side-lined GR's showing in 2010, but not his training. He continued to be worked with HGF rider Maria Lithander under the watchful eyes of both Courtney and Lendon Gray.

In 2011, GR will resume his show career in the hands of a new rider to be announced soon, with a bid for the Olympics in London in 2012 in mind. As a breeding stallion, GR is producing many top sons and daughters, two of whom have been purchased by Olympic riders Martin Schaudt and Robert Dover. Grandioso has energetic personality under saddle, but is quiet and affectionate in hand. He has exceptional piaffe and passage and performs all the Grand Prix movements willingly and with ease. Grandioso’s future is bright and his offspring are in high demand.
