June News

Summer is finally here! Spring Cleaning is wrapping up just in time for the good weather. Our new stallion paddocks are getting their final coat of paint, flowers are planted, stalls have been re-stained, fields have been cleared, and the renovations to the Trainers' house are finished in expectation of our new riders arriving this month. The mares and young horses have been turned out into the summer pastures for the season and are enjoying the freedom and long warm days.

We have 7 new babies on the ground and the Mare Barn is a busy nursery these days. With 5 more coming in the next few weeks, our breeding staff is freeing up the birthing stalls and getting the new moms and babies outside and back in their herds as quickly as they can. So far, our count is 3 colts and 4 fillies--all strong, healthy young foals!

Due to the number of babies expected this year, we will not be hosting our annual Summer Open House this June. We have decided to wait until later in the year and plan a Fall Festival at Hampton Green. We will be sure to pass on the details as soon as they are finalized.

This Wednesday, the shipping van will leave with 7 horses for Wilimington, Ohio and Fiesta Midwest. We are very excited to be part of this first Midwest PRE breed show. HGF staff will join Tom Reed, Maria Lithander, Valerie Lazzaro, Alex Zilo, Mary Magee, Suzanne and Tom O'Brien, Jordi Pedrola, Gabi Baker, Pam Geniac and the Fiesta Midwest Show Committee, and many more friends, for this three-day event. Many activities and educational forums are planned and we especially look forward to spending time with the President and members of the Executive Committee of ANCCE who have travelled from Spain to be part of this event. We hope to see you there.

We will return on Sunday and will post all our experiences on this site so be sure to check back. Later this month we will be introducing our new riding staff and continue plans for the upcoming Summer Dressage Festival (August 9-17) with Lendon Gray and Victor Alvarez. At the end of the month, we plan to attend the Olympic Selection Trials in Los Angeles and combine it with a visit to Courtney and Grandioso, who are there training with Steffen Peters.

More to come . . . Have a great week!
